TORONTO: Conservative Party candidate Lisa Robinson from the Toronto riding of Beaches-East York was dropped on Friday after her anti-Muslim social media posts were brought to the party’s notice.

Corey Hann, the party’s communications director, said, “Racism and Islamophobia has no place in the Conservative Party of Canada. Our expectation is that all of our candidates conduct themselves in a respectful, tolerant manner. Consequently, we have terminated this individual as a candidate.”

Her removal took place after Liberal candidate Nathan Erskine-Smith posted screenshots of Lisa Robinson’s anti-Muslim posts from the past.

But Lisa Robinson, who is a real estate expert, tweeted that the posts were from a fake account.

“This account is fake and in 2018 I reported it to the Durham police. I will be signing an attestation confirming these facts.

“Sharing this false information is defamatory and must be removed immediately. Alternatively, you’ll be getting a libel notice shortly.”
