BRAMPTON: Peel police have solved the last year’s murder of Sangita Sharma, the wife of the priest of the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, by arresting a 19-year-old man from London, Ontario.
Sangita, 56, was found with gunshot wounds by her husband at their residence on Treeline Boulevard in Brampton on August 13 last year. She succumbed to her injuries.
She previously owned Torbram Pharmacy before selling it in 2018.
Sangita’s murder had sent shockwaves in the Indo-Canadian community across the GTA and Canada.
After a lengthy investigation, police have identified Fiseha Girmay Habtegabir, a 19-year-old man from London, Ontario, as the alleged murderer.
He was arrested on June 4 with the assistance of London Police and charged with first degree murder.
He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Saturday.
Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said, “Sangita Sharma’s death was the tragic outcome of a callous act of violence. It carried deep impacts on her loved ones and our community. While we are pleased to share that this arrest has been made, we believe there are others responsible for her death. We are committed to ensuring they do not escape that responsibility.â€
Police say they are looking for more suspects as they search for a connection between the suspects in London and the victim in Brampton.
