TORONTO: Gurkaran Singh, 22, Abhijeet Singh, 20, and Khushveer Toor, 20, of Surrey in British Columbia have been arrested and charged with the murder of a senior couple in Abbotsford.

They were taken into custody from Surrey on Friday.

Three Punjabi men face first-degree murder charges in the killing of Arnold De Jong, 77, and his wife, Joanne, 76, in May 2022. It is not known whether the three accused are related.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of the Abbotsford Police, one of the three men knew the victims.

The motive behind the murder is not known.

Abbotsford Police Chief Mike Serr said, “We know today’s arrests and charges don’t necessarily bring closure, but I hope they bring some level of comfort to a family that has truly suffered greatly with the loss of their family members.

“Joanne and Arnold were very well-known in our community … and we were all committed to seek justice.”

The couple were found dead in their home on the morning of May 9, 2022. While the husband ran a transport business under the name of De Jong Transport, the wife was a licensed nurse.
