NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, 68, who became the butt of social media gossip when his love affair with TV anchor Amrita Rai, 44, were revealed last year, has reportedly married her.
Amrita is 24 years younger than Digvijaya Singh – who is even four years older than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Since Amrita was much younger than him and still married to her previous husband when Digvijaya got involved with her last year, the Hindu cleric Dwarka Peeth Shankarachrya had reprimanded Digvijaya for his `indiscretion.’
But we now hear that Digvijaya Singh, who is a former chief minister of Madhya Pardesh, married Amrita last month and the two are currently in the US on honeymoon.
Amrita is currently working with Rajya Sabha TV from where she is reportedly on leave now.
Their secret relationship came to light in April 2014 when their intimate pictures were leaked. Amrita had separated from her husband when she got involved with this Congress leader who is known as a sort of loose cannon.
“I have separated from my husband and we have filed a mutual consent divorce papers. After which I have decided to marry with Digvijaya Singh,’’ she had tweeted at that time.
Digvijaya’s wife, with who he has four daughters and a son, passed away in 2013.
Digvijaya’s romance with much younger Amrita had earned him the ire of the Shanakacharya of Dwarka Peeth. He had to sit at the feet of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati to seek forgiveness.
