MISSISSAUGA: A Mississauga immigration consultant, his wife and their consulting firm have been charged with immigration fraud.
Wissam Qita, 42, his wife Lama Loubani, 36, and their consulting firm called 7891296 Canada Inc. have been charged with misusing the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Privately Sponsored Refugees Program to cheat people.
Between October 2015 and March 2018, the couple sponsored refugees to immigrate to Canada under the Program. They asked their clients to pay between $7,500 and over $56,000 in cash.
However, pre-payment for sponsorship is not permitted under the Program.
Both husband and wife and their consulting firm misrepresented the facts to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in sponsorship applications.
Qita has been charged with nine counts of misrepresentation and six counts of counseling misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).
His wife Loubani and their company 7891296 Canada Inc. have been charged with four counts of misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Charges have been laid after an extensive investigation by the Criminal Investigations Section of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
The couple are scheduled to appear in court on May 10.
Interestingly, the husband also owns and runs Explore Canada Immigration Services Inc. where his wife Lama Loubani is employed.
