3 Indo-Canadian men arrested for Punjabi brawl in Brampton plaza

BRAMPTON: An ugly Punjab brawl in a Brampton city plaza where sticks and choicest Punjabi expletives flew freely on December 10 has shocked local communities. Just watch this video (below) shot by some bystanders.

Peel Regional Police on Friday arrested and charged three Indo-Canadian Punjabi men from the city in connection with this brawl in a city plaza parking lot on Sunday, December 10

They have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, 20, Karanbir Singh, 22, and Harbir Singh, 22. They are all from Brampton.

A 19-year-old victim suffered minor injuries in the brawl.

The brawl happened in the plaza parking lot at the corner of McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue West around 10:30 p.m on December 10 when about two dozen men in two groups started fighting. Punjabi expletives and wooden sticks were used freely in the brawl which was captured on video by many bystanders.

When police reached the spot, they found only the 19-year-old victim who had suffered minor injuries.

The three suspects were identified from the videos of the attack taken by many bystanders.

Police said the community helped them identify the suspects.

They will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on January 17.

In a Peel Police press release, Raj Biring, officer in Charge of the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, said, “This incident had caused a great deal of concern and attention in the community. Peel Regional Police want to ensure the public that these types of incidents will be investigated thoroughly as public safety is our top priority.’’
