MISSISSAUGA: Countless good-hearted people have offered to make donations for a little pet dog found being dragged along a car by its owner.
The owner – 70-year-old Jose Tavares from Mississauga – has been arrested and charged with cruelty to his seven-month-old Pomeranian dog Sky by dragging alongside his moving vehicle.
According to police, the incident happened on August 4 when multiple people called the Peel Regional Police Communications Centreat about 4 pm after they saw a small dog being dragged with a leash by the driver of a vehicle in the area of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Destination Drive in Mississauga.
When many concerned citizens forced the man to stop the vehicle, the driver dropped the leash and fled in his vehicle.
The dog – a 7-month-old Pomeranian named Sky – was transported to an emergency vet hospital in the Town of Oakville by Mississauga Animal Services, where it received treatment for the injuries it received.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver at a residence in Mississauga and take him into custody.
After investigations, 70-year-old Jose Tavares from Mississauga has been charged with:
– Injuring an animal
– Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
– Impaired operation of a conveyance
Police says the dog is expected to make a full recovery from the injuries.
The veterinary hospital where the dog is being treated has received countless offers of financial donations but are not in a position to accept donations. Police says those who consider donating should contact their local humane society to support their programs and initiatives.
